Looking to try some new cocktails on your Gluten-Free diet? You may be a little hesitant to go out while you’re still navigating your new lifestyle, but lucky for you gluten-free cocktails are super easy to make at home! There are great gluten-free drink mixes, liquors, and recipes out there that won’t taste any different than any other cocktail.
Typically when putting together any cocktail, you need to start with what gluten-free liquor or alcohol you plan to use. First, figure out what the base of your drink is.
Is Wine Gluten-Free?
If you’re a wine drinker, your favorite type of wine could be the best place to start! But is wine gluten-free? The great majority of wines are already gluten-free such as most white wines, red wines, and rose!
There are plenty of wines that are gluten-free and do not use gluten during the process of preparing wine. Just look on the back of the label to make sure no gluten additives were used in the preparation process as this could cause upsets for someone with a gluten sensitivity. A great brand for gluten-free wines is Stella Rosa! They have all types of flavored white wines and Moscato that are gluten-free and taste the same as all other wines.
Gluten-Free Liquor
It may seem difficult trying to pick out a gluten-free liquor to drink, but there is an abundance of options to choose from such as gluten-free rum, tequila, gin, whiskey, vodka, and more!
There are also various types of gluten-free alcohol you can use to make a mixed cocktail that has no gluten or gluten additives! Some popular choices include RumHaven Rum, Jose Cuervo Tequila, Captain Morgan Rum, Hendrick’s Gin, and Wild Turkey Bourbon.
Another great choice would be a type of vodka that uses potatoes or grapes as the base instead of grain. An example of the perfect choice of a gluten-free vodka is Tito’s Vodka, which you can find in almost any grocery store or liquor store!
Is Beer Gluten-Free?
You might think there aren’t too many beers or cider options if you’re gluten-free, but there are! Coors now have their Coors Peak Copper Logger beer which is brewed without barley and is made with brown rice instead - making it a great gluten-free beer choice!
Is Angry Orchard’s Rose cider gluten-free? It’s a crisp cider and it tastes great with hard liquor mixed in! If you’re a fan of Moscow Mules, then here’s a recipe you’ll love and it’s of course, gluten-free.
This is a great recipe for a common drink you probably love order, but with a little twist!
Estimated preparation time is only 5 minutes and this recipe is only for 1 Mule but you can simply double the ingredients in the recipe to make more for yourself or guests!
Recipe:
Here’s a quick and easy recipe for a Rose Moscow Mule using Tito’s Vodka & gluten-free mixers.
Ingredients:
- 1 Shot (2 oz) of Tito’s Vodka
- 4 oz of Angry Orchard Rose Cider (gluten-free cider!)
- 1 lime for lime juice and garnish
- A handful of crushed ice
- And any other garnish you like!
Recommended Cookware:
- Copper or metal mug
- Spoon to mix drink with
- Cutting board
- Knife sharp enough to slice a lime
- A single shot glass
- ½ cup measuring cup
Directions: Grab your favorite metal cup or mug to make your drink in. It should be a cup that can hold about 8 oz of liquid. Cover the bottom with crushed ice and set down.
Gather the Tito’s Vodka, Angry Orchard Rose Cider, and lime juice. Get your cutting board and knife and cut the lime in half. Take one half of the lime and cut a simple wedge out of it. Use the other full half of the lime and squeeze the juice into the mug. You can also squeeze the juice into a small bowl first in case you don’t want any seeds or big pulp pieces sneaking into your drink!
Get your shot glass and fill it with a shot of the Tito’s Vodka and pour it into the metal mug with the lime juice and ice. Now use the ½ cup measuring cup and fill it with the Angry Orchard Rose Cider and pour it into the metal mug. Use the metal spoon to stir the wonderful mixture you’ve created and taken the lime slice you cut earlier, to garnish the side of your metal mug! Enjoy!
This is an easy recipe that once you have made it once, you’ll be able to make it over and over again in minutes! It’s the perfect drink to accompany you at a dinner party or a great thing to order when out for drinks.
A gluten-free lifestyle doesn’t have to feel like you’re restricted from everything everyone around you is enjoying. You can make just the simplest adjustments that you won’t even know are included in living gluten-free. You deserve to take control of your eating and drinking habits and cater to them to what you enjoy most.
Now more than ever, there are options all across the board for cocktail mixers, wines, liquors, and other additives for drinks!
