Keto-Friendly Supreme Pizza Burger 🍔

This keto-friendly burger is a cross between a supreme pizza and a cheeseburger, and it is the perfect keto comfort food.  A mixture of ground beef and pork sausage are seasoned with Italian seasoning for the burger patty, and it is topped with bell pepper, onion, homemade pizza sauce, and cheese for that supreme pizza flavor.  The blend of Italian flavors gives it just the right twist on the traditional burger you know and love.  This recipe is not only delicious, but also provides 20 grams of high quality protein, as well as being a rich source of minerals that are key for the immune system, like zinc, selenium, and iron.

Keto-Friendly Supreme Pizza Burger | HighKey Snacks

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces ground beef, 85% lean

  • 8 ounces ground pork sausage

  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon pepper

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 red onion, sliced into rings

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced into rings

  • 6 slices provolone cheese

  • ½ cup tomato sauce

Lettuce leaves for wrapping burger or portobello mushroom caps for serving.

For the portobello mushroom:
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

    Directions:

    • 1Combine ground beef, sausage, heavy cream, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well mixed. 
    • 2Form into 6 patties about ¼ inch thick, making a thumbprint in the middle of each patty. 
    • 3Heat a grill or grill pan to medium heat.  Place patties on the grill, and cook 2-4 minutes per side, to desired level of doneness.
    • 4To make the pizza sauce, mix together tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. 
    • 5If using portabella mushroom caps, brush them with oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and grill until slightly softened.
    • 6To build your burger, top each patty with a slice of cheese, 2 tablespoons pizza sauce, 1 bell pepper ring, and 1 red onion ring.
