My name is Alicia, also known as @lishis.losingit on Instagram, and I am somewhere in the middle of a very transformative weight loss journey! I have lost over 100 pounds over the past year and a half by eating low-carb, practicing intermittent fasting, and working out. I’m now working on losing the next 100 pounds and I’m excited to see where this journey could lead me!
When did you decide to make a change?
It took me basically my entire life to learn how to successfully lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way. Although I had tried countless diets and struggled with my weight my entire life, I was never successful at actually losing weight.
About a year and a half ago I felt like I was at rock bottom. I was so unhappy; I avoided leaving the house and my weight was spiraling out of control. I knew if I didn’t change my life not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well, my life was headed in a very dark direction. I decided I wanted something better for myself and committed to making the change. But this time I was going to try a different approach. Rather than “punishing” myself into losing weight out of shame and self-hate, I decided I was going to learn to love and accept myself exactly as I was in that moment and approach this journey from a place of self-love. And in doing that, it became easier and easier to make healthy choices.
It was not an overnight change by any means! It took a ton of contemplation, research, and practice. I focused on inner work while learning as much as I could about the science behind weight issues, nutrition, and exercise. I took a nutrition class, got a gym membership, and started making small changes in my diet (rather than trying to change everything overnight as I would in the past). I started eliminating refined carbs from my diet one-by-one and started focusing on upping the fruits and veggies in my diet.
As I’ve lost weight I’ve grown more confident in my capabilities and have realized just how strong I am. Although it’s hard at times, leading a healthy lifestyle is such an empowering and uplifting accomplishment. I realized I don’t have to reach a certain weight to start living my best life or embrace who I am. I realized I can do that AND simultaneously work on better myself. Honestly, that’s the most amazing feeling!
What are your favorite low carb snacks?
It’s not sunshine and rainbows all the time. As with all journeys, there have been ups and downs. It’s taken a lot of hard inner and outer work to get to where I am today, and I still struggle at times and have days that are more challenging than others. I still fight cravings, especially for sweets, but HighKey makes it that much easier with their low carb goodies!
I stumbled across HighKey on Instagram and after trying the cookies... I was mind-blown! Most alternative sweetened and low-carb products I had tried previously fell short for me, but HighKey’s were such a game-changer!
I honestly love all the HighKey snacks I’ve tried, but some of my favorites are the Double Chocolate Brownie Mini Cookies, Cheese Crunch, and the Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Hot Cereal. I love that they offer nourishing, tasty, low-carb products and I can enjoy some of my favorite snacks while still meeting my goals!
I still have a long way to go in my journey but I’ve already learned so much along the way. I’ve grown in ways I never would have imagined. I’ve proven to myself that I CAN do this... I AM doing this, and no matter how long it takes, I WILL reach all of my goals. But in the meantime, I am enjoying the journey and living my best low-carb life every day (or at least most days 😅).
